The new museum is located in the renowned modernist residential building known as Pallati me Kuba, designed by the dissident Albanian architect Maks Velo. Drawing inspiration from his work and the adaptation of two apartments into house-museums, MIA Museum brings together the history of Albanian design production and architecture in a single space.
The symmetrical layout reflects the interruption of the production chain across two periods: before and during socialism. The furniture gradually recedes into the space, making room for a symbolic, dynamic red narrative. The red furniture directs the visitor’s attention to the actions within the space—sometimes, the action is the visitor themselves.
